Can I Get a Refund for the Duolingo English Test (DET)?

Short Answer

Sometimes. The DET fee is generally non-refundable, but Duolingo does issue refunds in specific circumstances — mainly technical problems on their end or unreasonably delayed results. A refund isn't available if your test was invalidated because you broke a testing rule.

When You're Likely to Get a Refund

  • A technical failure prevented you from completing or submitting the test
  • Your results were delayed well beyond the normal processing window with no clear explanation
  • A verified issue with Duolingo's own systems disrupted your session

When You Won't Get a Refund

  • You broke a testing rule (background software, someone entering the room, gaze violations, etc.) and your test was invalidated
  • You simply changed your mind or ran out of time within your 21-day window
  • You were unhappy with your score

How to Request One

Contact Duolingo's test support as soon as possible — ideally within 24 hours of the issue occurring. The longer you wait to report a technical problem, the harder it is to make the case that the issue was on Duolingo's end rather than your own setup.
