How to Practice DET Read, Then Speak on Prepingo

Read, Then Speak is won before recording begins: you must convert the written prompt into a small speaking map.

This walkthrough covers the Prepingo preparation timer, the 30–90 second speaking window, microphone recording, AI evaluation, and a practical drill for producing organized answers under pressure.

The prompt, supporting bullets, preparation time, and recording target are visible in one focused workspace.

Step-by-step: complete one useful attempt

  1. Read the main instruction before the supporting bullets.
  2. During preparation, choose one position and assign one idea to each bullet.
  3. Start with a direct response, then move through the ideas in a logical order.
  4. Use a concrete example to connect general claims to real experience.
  5. Finish the thought naturally before the maximum recording time.

See the answer stage before submitting

These screens show what the learner actually enters or records. Use them to understand the natural order of the task before you practise under time pressure.

The strategy to practise—not a memorized trick

The bullets are coverage cues, not separate interview questions. Combine them into one coherent response.

  • Group overlapping bullets instead of answering them mechanically.
  • Use signposts sparingly: first, however, for example, and overall.
  • If you lose a word, paraphrase and continue.
  • Practise reaching a conclusion before the timer forces you to stop.

A complete 60-second answer is stronger practice than an unfinished 90-second answer.

How scoring and feedback work in Prepingo

After submission, use the AI evaluation to distinguish language problems from delivery problems. A vocabulary recommendation needs a different drill from feedback about pauses, organization, or intelligibility.

Use Attempt History to prove you are improving

One score is only a snapshot. Open Attempt History above the question to review previous answers, scores, and feedback. Compare the same error category across several attempts: spelling, response development, vocabulary range, pronunciation, comprehension, or time management. Your target is not simply “more questions”; it is fewer repeated mistakes.

Common mistakes to eliminate

  • Reading the bullets aloud instead of answering them.
  • Trying to include too many unrelated arguments.
  • Using preparation time to write a script mentally.
  • Ending without completing the final sentence.

Your next 15-minute practice session

  1. Complete one normal timed attempt.
  2. Write down the three ideas you actually expressed.
  3. Repeat the response with a clearer order and one fewer filler phrase.
  4. Review the latest and previous attempts side by side.

Format note: Prepingo is an independent practice platform and is not endorsed by Duolingo. DET formats can change. Use the official DET readiness resources for current certified-test rules, then use Prepingo to build familiarity, repeat targeted skills, and obtain practice feedback.
